Important information regarding OT/PT work hours

Please be advised of the rules on work hours for occupational therapists and physical therapists for the 2015–16 school year:

Full-time therapists:

  • Work 6 hours and 55 minutes each day Monday through Friday
  • Workday starts when the school day begins

Part-time therapists:

  • Work at least 3 hours per day and no more than 6 hours and 55 minutes in one day
  • Workday starts when the school day begins
  • Must work a minimum of 20 work hours (excluding lunch) per week in order to be eligible for health benefits

These rules reflect the UFT’s working with the Department of Education to ensure part-timers will be able to maintain their health insurance if they regularly work 20 hours per week. If you are part-time, your supervisor or, in the absence of a supervisor, a manager, should already have reached out to you regarding your hours for the 2015–16 school year.

Please make sure prior to the start of the school year that you will be able to adhere to the work hours rules. The central office of the Department of Education will be monitoring therapists' hours to ensure compliance with this directive. If you have any questions, please contact Kerri Evangelista at kevangelista@uft.org.
