UFTers go pink to fight breast cancer
New York Teacher

From earrings to socks to ties, no pink accessory was too small on Oct. 22, when UFT members at schools across the city proudly wore pink to raise awareness of breast cancer. At some schools, teachers donned pink T-shirts from the UFT’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk on Oct. 19. At others, staff members showed off their school spirit with personalized pink garments — like at McKee Career and Technical HS on Staten Island, where teachers wore pink McKee football jerseys that read “Time to tackle breast cancer.” At several schools, even the snacks were pink: Teachers baked pink cupcakes and donuts to sell, with the proceeds going toward breast cancer research. By the end of the day, members had shared hundreds of photos on Facebook and Instagram with the hashtag #uftgopink.
