Dear parents, grandparents, guardians and education activists,

I'm excited to announce that registration is now open for the free UFT Bronx parent summit on Nov. 18. There will be workshops, exhibitors, giveaways and the opportunity to network with fellow Bronx parents.

You can also register by printing and mailing the registration brochure in English or Spanish. I hope to see you there!

We'll be accepting donations for relief efforts in Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Mexico up until the parent summit. We're accepting new towels, blankets, wipes, batteries, sanitary products, first aid kits, canned goods, toiletries and baby products. You can drop off donations at the UFT Bronx borough office at 2500 Halsey St. on any Friday between now and Nov. 18, or at the conference on Nov. 18. See the flier in English and Spanish »

  • Saturday, Oct. 7: Come to a free college fair for elementary, middle and high school students and their parents at 177 Dreiser Loop in the Bronx. There will be activities for students in 3rd to 6th grade from 9 a.m. to noon, speakers on the field of aeronautics at 11 a.m., meetings with professionals and college representatives for middle and high school students from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., and financial aid workshops for parents from 4 to 6 p.m. See the flier »
  • Saturday, Oct. 7: You're invited to a community meeting about immigrants' rights regarding the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, healthcare and social services. The meeting will run from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 928 Simpson St. in the Bronx. This meeting will be held in Spanish only. See the flier in Spanish »
  • Saturday, Oct. 7: Come to father and child softball from noon to 2 p.m. at Patterson Playgrounds, 448 College Ave. in the Bronx. Gloves and bats will be available. Sports attire is encouraged. See the flier »
  • Saturday, Oct. 14: Come to the UFT "ELLevating" conference about educating English language learners from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at UFT headquarters, 52 Broadway in Manhattan. The registration fee is $40 and includes breakfast and lunch. Find out more »
  • Saturday, Oct. 14: The Children's Village invites you to a "sleep out" event to raise awareness and distribute resources about homelessness at the annual Ferry Festa, which runs from noon to 8 p.m. The organization is looking for volunteers to join the sleep out and run the resource table — and also is seeking donations.
