Fall parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for this month. Although some schools hold their conferences on alternative dates, the citywide schedule is listed below.
- High schools — Nov. 9 and 10
- District 75 — Nov. 13 and 14
- Elementary schools — Nov. 15 and 16
- Middle schools — Nov. 29 and 30
For specific times and to confirm that your child's school will hold conferences on the Department of Education's scheduled dates, check with your child's school.

- Wednesday, Dec. 6: ADAPT Community Network will hold a free workshop about the transition from preschool special education to kindergarten from 10 a.m. to noon at 160 Lawrence Ave. This workshop is for parents and caregivers only. - Wednesday, Jan. 10 — Friday, Jan. 12: The Institute for Children, Poverty and Homelessness will hold a conference titled Beyond Housing: A National Conversation on Child Homelessness and Poverty at the Crowne Plaza Times Square. The conference is for practitioners, policy makers, service providers and students to share and discuss programs, solutions and policies to reduce poverty and homelessness among children and families. The registration fee is $125 for general admission and $35 for students. Scholarships are available. Find out more »

- Central Brooklyn Martin Luther King Commission Essay Contest: The Central Brooklyn Martin Luther King Commission invites students to submit art, essays and poetry to its annual contest for cash rewards, certificates, T-shirts and other prizes. - Has your child had a negative experience in preschool? The Center on Culture, Race and Equity is documenting and collecting stories of negative experiences in preschool such as expulsion, suspension or other disciplinary action, to educate policy makers on how to better support families. Participants will receive a $50 Visa gift card and book for their child, plus the opportunity to share their stories with caring professionals and influence education policy. - Free Caribbean costume construction and wire-bending workshops: The West Indian American Day Carnival Association is offering free workshops for adults to learn wire-bending and construct beautiful headpieces and costumes. Classes will be every Saturday until Dec. 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 245 E. 34th St. in Brooklyn. Admission is free, but registration is required. See the flier »
- Paid internship and job training program: Henry Street Settlement in lower Manhattan has a young adult internship program for people between the ages of 17 and 24 who are not working or in school. The program includes a paid internship, GED training for those who need it, job readiness training and one-on-one meetings with an adviser. The next cohort begins on Nov. 27. Find out more »
