Dear parents, grandparents, guardians and education activists,

It's your last chance to register for our UFT Brooklyn parent conference in November. Registration closes tomorrow, Thursday, Oct. 19. There will be workshops, food, exhibitors, giveaways and more.

You can also register by printing and mailing a registration brochure. Please distribute the brochure to other parents. This is a free event. Unfortunately, child care is not available. We look forward to seeing you there!

  • Saturday, Oct. 28: The Department of Education will hold a Parent-Teacher Association Executive Board Orientation and Conference from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the High School of Fashion Industries, 255 W. 24th St. in Manhattan.   • Thursday, Nov. 16: ADAPT Community Network invites parents to a workshop titled Sensory Smart Strategies for Real-Life Challenges from 10 a.m. to noon at CUNY's Graduate Center, 365 Fifth Ave. in Manhattan. Learn how to help your child with an Autism Spectrum Disorder manage sensitivities to noise, touch, movement and more and avoid sensory overload.   • The UFT is collecting for relief efforts in Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Mexico: The UFT Bronx parent committee is accepting donations for disaster relief until Nov. 18. You can bring new towels, blankets, wipes, batteries, sanitary products, first aid kits, canned goods, toiletries and baby products. Drop off donations at the UFT Bronx borough office at 2500 Halsey St. on any Friday between now and Nov. 18, or at the Bronx parent conference on Nov. 18. See the flier in English and Spanish »

    You can also donate to the UFT effort to help public schools in Puerto Rico. The UFT Disaster Relief Fund is accepting donations to support public schools and public school educators recovering from the devastating effects of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. Make a donation »
  • Round 1 of high school admissions is open until Dec. 1: To apply for their top 12 choices of high school programs, middle school students should submit an application to their school counselors by Friday, Dec. 1. Learn more about high school admissions »
  • Central Brooklyn Martin Luther King Commission Essay Contest: The Central Brooklyn Martin Luther King Commission invites students to submit art, essays and poetry to its annual contest for cash rewards, certificates, t-shirts and other prizes. Submissions will be accepted until Tuesday, Nov. 14. Find out more »
  • Get a free workshop about domestic violence at your school: October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and to raise awareness about how to combat domestic violence, the Mayor's Office to Combat Domestic Violence is offering free workshops about dating violence and healthy relationships. There are workshops available for parents and for youth between the ages of 13 and 24.
