Negotiations have begun on the next DOE-UFT contract. At the end of the first bargaining session, which was attended by some of the union’s 400-member negotiating committee. The UFT surveyed DOE-employed members on their contract priorities in the winter. The contract surveys were tailored for members in each school division and functional chapter with an eye toward learning the particular needs of educators in different roles and job titles. The UFT’s negotiating committee has met regularly since early January to draw up the union’s demands and plot strategy. The union’s current contract, which was negotiated in 2014, is set to expire in February.
