Betsy DeVos wants to destroy neighborhood public schools and replace them with a patchwork of state-funded for-profit charters, private and parochial schools, and online learning networks.
Two Republican senators — Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska — announced on Feb. 1 that they would not support DeVos' nomination when it comes to a full vote before the Senate. Just one more Republican senator is needed to thwart DeVos' confirmation.
The Senate vote is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at noon. Senate Democrats plan to debate all night to try to convince one more Republican to join them.

Ask your friends and family in the states listed below to call these Republican senators to tell them to stand up for public schools and vote NO on Betsy DeVos.
- Mississippi: Thad Cochran, 202-224-5054, 601-965-4459, 662-236-1018 and 228-867-9710
- Wyoming: John Barasso, 202-224-6441, 307-261-6413, 307-772-2451, 307-856-6642, 307-362-5012 and 307-672-6456
They may encounter busy signals or full voice mailboxes, but encourage them to continue calling until they get through. Senators Collins and Murkowski both noted that their decisions were influenced by the thousands of phone calls they received from constituents.
SCRIPT:
I am a constituent from (CITY OR TOWN) and I am calling to ask Senator XXX to vote NO on the nomination of Betsy DeVos. Betsy DeVos has no qualifications for this job, no experience in education, and her testimony in front of the Senate HELP Committee showed she lacks a basic understanding of how to ensure all kids can access a quality public education. I expect Senator XXX to vote no on her confirmation.
