Interested in becoming a school librarian?

New York Teacher

The Department of Education’s Office of Library Services is holding information sessions for individuals interested in a career as a school librarian or those simply looking to expand their role as an educator while accumulating credits toward a salary differential. It’s part of the DOE’s effort to replenish the system’s ranks of school librarians.

At the sessions, you’ll be able to speak with school librarians about their role in a school’s instructional plan; meet with representatives from local and online information studies and library science graduate programs to discuss possible paths to school librarianship; and explore the benefits of having a library science degree.

There will be three sessions that will each run from 5 to 7 p.m.: Wednesday, Jan. 21 in the Information Commons Room at the Brooklyn Public Library, 10 Grand Army Plaza; Tuesday, Jan. 27, in the Forest Hills HS library, 67-01 11th St. in Queens; and Tuesday, Feb. 3, at 333 Seventh Ave. (7th floor conference room) in Manhattan.

More information is available on the New York City Library System website or by emailing Richard Hasenyager at rhasenyager@schools.nyc.gov.
