David Kazansky has been elected as a new trustee on the Teachers’ Retirement System board.
He replaces UFT Treasurer Mel Aaronson, who retired from the board after serving 35 years.
Kazansky won a three-year term on the retirement board on May 13. He joins Sandra March and Tom Brown as the three teacher representatives on the seven-member TRS board. Of the other four board members, the mayor appoints two and the city comptroller and city schools chancellor each have one seat.
Kazansky began to work part time as a pension consultant in the Bronx borough office while he was still teaching full time. He moved into working full time for the union as coordinator of the union’s Victim Support Program and as a UFT special representative in the Bronx prior to becoming director of the UFT Safety and Health Department. He has been a representative in the Pension Department since fall 2014 and has been a member of the UFT Executive Board since 2013.
“It is an honor to be elected to the TRS board and charged with the awesome responsibility of safeguarding our members’ pensions and retirement security,” Kazansky said. “My fellow trustees, Sandra March and Tom Brown, and I will continue this important work that allows every UFT member to retire with dignity.”
