The U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics did not release its monthly jobs report due to the fact that those who compile the results were not working because of the government shutdown.
The report, which provides data on employment during the month of September, was not issued on Oct. 4. An alternative release date was not scheduled.
The monthly report shows the nation’s unemployment rate and employment levels, based on surveys of households and businesses.
The numbers are carefully monitored by investors, elected officials and economists, as the data can influence investments, policies and approval ratings.
