The deadline to apply for free prekindergarten programs offered by the Department of Education is Wednesday, April 23. Here are some things to know:
- Children turning 4 years old in 2014 who live in New York City are eligible.
- Programs can be half-day (2.5 hours), which take place in the morning or afternoon, or full-day (6 hours and 20 minutes).
- Programs are available at public schools and community-based organizations (CBOs). There are separate application processes for public schools and CBOs.
- The Department of Education has a Pre-K Expansion Guide online that lists all public school pre-K programs, including new or expanded programs.
For more information and to apply, visit the Department of Education’s pre-K enrollment website.
