The UFT on Sept. 23 launched a new TV ad celebrating the dedication and commitment of New York City educators. The ad, which aired on major broadcast and cable stations in the metropolitan New York area, points out that in these turbulent times, public school educators stay rock steady, forming the bedrock of school communities and helping students achieve success now and throughout their lives.
The stirring ad, which ran through Oct. 6, features four teachers, a parent and students. “The candidates. The issues. The debate goes back and forth,” begins the narrator. “We stay rock steady,” says teacher Laura Marchese of PS 102 in Brooklyn.
“We’re New York City public school teachers,” continues Adrian Brooks, a teacher at Bronx School for Law and Community Service.
“Challenging minds, motivating dreams, encouraging excellence,” say teachers Kishayna Hazlewood of PS 156 in Brooklyn and Sari Rosenberg of the HS for Environmental Studies in Manhattan. Hazlewood, a 3rd-grade teacher, served earlier this year on the governor’s Common Core task force.
The ad concludes by reminding New Yorkers that public schools educate all children. “Parents and the community are pitching in,” say the teachers and a student. “Together we can build great public schools in every neighborhood for every child.”
As in all UFT ads, actual New York City public school teachers, students and parents are shown.
The ad aired before the first presidential debate on Sept. 26 and on local and cable news programs as well as on “CBS This Morning,” “Good Morning America,” “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and during football and baseball games.
