I want to thank those of you who joined us for the UFT Staten Island parent conference on Oct. 21. It was a wonderful day of learning and connecting, and I look forward to seeing you again at more parent events this year.

Fall parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for this month. Although some schools hold their conferences on alternative dates, the citywide schedule is listed below.
- High schools — Nov. 9 and 10
- District 75 — Nov. 13 and 14
- Elementary schools — Nov. 15 and 16
- Middle schools — Nov. 29 and 30
For specific times and to confirm that your child's school will hold conferences on the Department of Education's scheduled date, check with your child's school.

- Thursday, Nov. 16: Person Centered Care Services will hold a workshop about motivational interviewing for professionals, students and parents of people with disabilities from 1 to 3 p.m. at 150 Granite Ave. This is part of a series of workshops about mental health issues and techniques for people with disabilities. - Tuesday, Nov. 21: Come to a free workshop about sensory integration for parents of children with disabilities from 10 a.m. to noon at 281 Port Richmond Ave. Learn about sensory processing issues and how to support your child. - Free parenting class starting in December: Families on the Move New York City, Inc. will host a free parenting class every Friday from Dec. 1 to Jan. 12 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Stapleton Library, 132 Canal St. Refreshments and MetroCards will be provided. - Support groups for people with disabilities and their families: Parent to Parent of New York State holds support groups for people with Asberger's syndrome and for mothers, fathers and siblings of people with developmental disabilities. - $5 tickets for performances at Lincoln Center: Lincoln Center has a program called Family-Linc that offers $5 tickets for family friendly performances at Lincoln Center to families that otherwise might not have access to dance, music and opera performances.
