Members explore how to use technology to enhance classroom instruction at a workshop at last year's UFT Spring Education Conference.
It’s time to order your tickets for the UFT’s annual Spring Education Conference, which promises to be a day of celebration and inspiration for your work as public school educators.
The Saturday, May 30, event will feature a town hall, exhibits, a gala luncheon and workshops on PROSE schools, teacher leadership, instructional technology, behavior management and more.
You have until May 15 to register. The conference will take place at the New York Hilton in midtown Manhattan and begin with breakfast at 7:30 a.m. There is a $50 registration fee.
The town hall, an opportunity for educators to question education experts on pertinent issues, will begin at 8:30 a.m. and wrap up at 10 a.m.
Participants can attend their choice of two of six workshops, with sessions at 10:15 and 11:30 a.m.
The workshop Community Learning Schools — Where Do I Fit? will feature a discussion about how staff in different roles at a school interact and encourage everyone to take ownership of the community school model while effectively leading their schools.
The Creating Caring Schools through Social-Emotional Learning workshop will feature an overview of strategies being implemented and expanded in schools to promote positive school climate.
Cultivating the Power of Teacher Leaders will give educators in career ladder positions a chance to share their experiences and the practices that have begun to have an impact on their school communities.
If technology is your thing, two workshops will be up your alley. It’s All About the Apps will help educators explore how UFT Teacher Center partner schools have integrated various apps into instruction. Participants in Using Apple Technology to Transform Classroom Learning will learn how transformational technology has been used to augment classroom instruction and improve student learning outcomes. Please bring your iPad or another mobile device to these workshops.
Finally, PROSE: Fostering Collaboration and Innovation for Student Success will help UFT members assess the levels of collaboration and innovation in their schools and explore how they could use the latitude provided by participation in the PROSE program to try new things and bring about valuable changes.
