This year's celebration will be held on Thursday May 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. at UFT Headquarters in Manhattan. We have had great success in prior years and look forward to your participation this year. We have changed some of our criteria to allow for greater participation in each of the school districts.

We strongly suggest that you nominate yourself for either your personal accomplishments, your projects with your students or any other colleagues who have contributed to the profession from April 2015 through May 2016.

Anyone who has won in the last two years will be ineligible to win to ensure that more speech teachers can enter and be acknowledged as winners. This year the best entries of each district will be chosen. Only students and speech teachers who are listed on the nomination form will be invited to the celebration. We expect that if you win, you will join us for the celebration because your attendance and your students, makes it even more special.

Use the online feature to explain why you or your colleagues should be recognized and include the following information:

For grants, projects or presentations:

When was it initiated? What was the purpose? Who was the audience? Did it achieve its goal?

Types of entries can be in the form of articles written, grants, projects, new websites or presentations at ASHA, NYSSHLA, or a professional conference.

For student projects or artwork:

Submissions can be in the form of a drawing, painting, poster, poem, letter or video presentation such as a song or skit. The theme should be related to what Better Speech and Hearing month means to them or how speech has positively impacted their lives and educational experience.
