Did you know the UFT has a free homework help line open to public school students? The UFT Dial-a-Teacher program offers free homework help to elementary and middle school students Monday through Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Classroom teachers are available to assist students in Bengali, Chinese (Mandarin, Cantonese and Fukanese), English, French, Haitian-Creole, Russian, Slovak and Spanish.   • Tuesday, March 14: Every year, New York City public school parents and educators travel to Albany for a lobby day for public education. Join the UFT to help tell state legislators to increase funding for public schools, renew the millionaire’s tax, support community learning schools and more.   • Tuesday, March 14: Come to a hiring event from 10 a.m. to noon at the Robin Hood Foundation, 826 Broadway on the 9th floor. There will be employers for jobs in several fields including construction, administrative services, security and human services. See the flier »
  • Saturday, March 25: The Child Development Support Corporation invites families to a free summer camp fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 352-358 Classon Ave. in Brooklyn. Get your child's summer plans squared away while enjoying activities, giveaways and refreshments. See the flier »
  • Friday, March 31: Please join us for the UFT Bronx borough office college fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the UFT Bronx borough office, 2500 Halsey St. Admissions representatives from more than 100 colleges and universities will be available to meet with students. There will also be workshops about the application process, financial aid, SAT and ACT exams and more. Schools should fill out the group registration form for this free event by March 24. Learn more and register online »

  • Wednesday, April 5: New York State legislators invite you to a job fair from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Sotomayor Community Center, 1000 Rosedale Ave. in the Bronx. Learn about jobs at city agencies, contract work, the retail industry and more. See the flier »
  • Saturday, April 8: New York State Assemblyman Luis Sepúlveda and Senator Rubén Díaz invite Bronx families to an Easter egg hunt from noon to 3 p.m. at the St. Helena's Church playground at 1315 Olmstead Ave. See the flier »
  • Thursday, May 11: Save the date for the HERspanic achievement celebration from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Taino Towers Crystal Ballroom, 240 E. 123rd St. in Manhattan.   • College scholarship for immigrant students: Making the Impossible Possible, Inc. invites immigrant students to apply for an academic scholarship. The deadline is April 15. Eligible students have been in the United States for fewer than 10 years, can demonstrate financial need and academic merit, are involved in their communities and will be enrolling in a two- or four-year college or university for the first time in fall of 2017.   • Enter to win a college scholarship and Knicks tickets: The New York Knicks invite high school students who live within 75 miles of Madison Square Garden and who are in good academic standing to enter the Noche Latina Scholarship Award contest.
