Dear parents, grandparents, guardians and education activists,

I hope you're all enjoying the warm weather and sunshine at the beginning of spring.

There's still time to register for this Saturday's UFT/DOE Special Education Family Empowerment Conference.

There will be workshops on topics such as Supporting Positive Behavior at Home and School, Understanding Autism, Diploma Options and more. Representatives from community-based organizations will be on hand to offer information about resources. Breakfast and lunch will be served, and interpretation services are available.

  • Monday, March 25: Come to a free resume-writing workshop at 10 a.m. at Manny Cantor Center, 197 East Broadway. Computers will be provided. To register, email
  • Tuesday, March 26: If you do community work, you're invited to a free National Poison Prevention Week training for community providers from 9 a.m. to noon at 455 First Ave. in the auditorium. Breakfast will be served. Register online »
  • Wednesday, March 27: Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders between the ages of 3 and 13 are invited to join the Friends Are We! after-school program, which runs from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays at the Children's Museum of the Arts.   • Saturday, April 13: Not on My Watch, Inc. will host a support group for parents, guardians and family members of victims of domestic violence and human trafficking. The meeting runs from 3 to 5 p.m. at 2 Washington St., 17th floor. Learn about support services and connect with others who share your experience. Refreshments will be served.   • Saturdays, May 4, 11 and 18: The annual UFT parent leadership workshop series will run from 9 a.m. to noon on the first three Saturdays in May at UFT headquarters, 52 Broadway.   • UFT Be BRAVE Against Bullying video contest: NYC public school students are invited to submit a three- to five-minute video about bullying and intolerance by Tuesday, April 9. The winning videos will be featured on the UFT BRAVE Facebook page and at UFT events, and winners will be invited to an awards ceremony on Friday, May 17. See the flier »
  • Free theater, math, reading and writing program: The Neighborhood Work Play Kids Theater program for children ages 6 to 9 runs every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Clinton Hill Library, 380 Washington Ave., in the community room. The program will run until June 15. Kids are invited to come play theater games and learn about math, reading and writing. To learn more and register, email or call 718-503-4763.
