Occupational and Physical Therapists Chapter Update

Dear Colleagues,

I am writing to let you know that the Department of Citywide Administrative Services recently announced the filing dates to apply for the Civil Service exams scheduled for Occupational Therapist (DOE) (Exam # 4009) and Physical Therapist (DOE) (Exam #4015). The open filing start date to take the exam is Nov. 6, 2013 and the end filing date is Dec. 17, 2013.

All DOE-employed occupational therapists and physical therapists, whether serving at the senior level or the staff level, must apply for and take the upcoming civil service exam for the appropriate title. The exam will afford therapists the opportunity to attain permanent status. DOE officials have informed us that this will be an online education and experience exam, crediting applicants for both educational achievements and service working in a school system.

I have many questions about this process and I know you do as well. I will be meeting with the Department of Education and others knowledgeable about the examination process on Oct. 30, 2013 to gather information and clarify issues related to the exam. In the meantime, I would like to hear from you. Please send your questions, comments and concerns to OTandPTexamquestions@uft.org on or before Oct. 30.  I will use the information from the meeting to develop a Q&A regarding the exam. The Q&A will be posted on the OT and PT chapter website as soon as possible after the meeting.

Sincerely,

Leslie McDonnell
Chapter Leader
