To the Editor:
Isn’t it disgusting how the DOE is never wrong (in its eyes)? [See “DOE wants Cardozo to pay for Tweed blunder,” Oct. 17.] So it made a mistake. It gave Cardozo HS more money than its formulas called for. Did the school go to Vegas with the money — or did it spend it on the very students it serves?
The DOE has traditionally underfunded the large, nonspecialized schools. It has loaded them with over-the-counter students and then pointed to the decline in scores as evidence of unsuccessful teaching and schools.
Cardozo shouldn’t have to pay back the money. Instead, the additional money and the school’s success should be pointed to as evidence of how more adequate funding can encourage better results.
