Kids losing out on librarians’ skills

New York Teacher

The current climate is to close the library and get rid of the librarian. So many of us have been sent back into the classroom. With no protection for keeping the library open, the librarian is left to flounder.

I was removed from the library in September 2012. People would go into the library and take out books and use equipment, and little by little this wonderful space became a disaster area. It’s all a waste of personnel, time, money, energy and space, and no one wins.

The kids lose the one person who has actually been trained in research skills, Internet or otherwise.
