I still don’t have Unit 1 for Ready Gen but I really don’t care since more than three-quarters of my class won’t be able to read the book when it comes.
This program is ridiculous. How can you expect 6-year-olds and 10-year-olds to sit for the same amount of time? There’s no recognition or understanding of reading levels, development, stamina or how long things take. The explanations on how to do it are weak, and we’ve had no professional development to explain what to do.
How are they supposed to “delve more deeply” into texts the children can’t read? How is it that almost every child needs scaffolding and support? Is it possible that the children aren’t failing, but we’re failing them by not teaching standards at the correct level?
I can teach them Common Core Learning Standards with age/grade/developmentally appropriate material. I’m sorry. My class is not college-ready. THEY ARE 6 YEARS OLD!
