I had the pleasure of working with and for Bob Astrowsky [see “Cherished UFT leader Bob Astrowsky dies,” Oct. 5] when he was the UFT Brooklyn borough representative and I was the UFT District 13 representative. Bob was always available to me in my many and varied challenges as a district rep. He listened intently, took notes and always followed up.

A few times, Bob would note that I looked stressed when I arrived at union headquarters and wanted to know what was wrong. Bob immediately allowed me to vent as we walked to my office and shared ownership of the problem and the solution with me.

Bob was all about service to others. It was a value I admired most in Bob and brought to the district rep job.
