More needs to be done to educate new teachers on the need for unions. Since Ronald Reagan led the charge against collective bargaining and his political party — the crazy, radical right — launched its successful campaign vilifying unions (to take the spotlight off the top 5 percent and Congress, which have consistently hoarded money and benefits for themselves at the expense of ordinary American workers), we have seen an extreme increase in income inequality and a decline in the quality of public education and many other areas.
There is always a need for unions because depending on the “good will” of the superrich is like hoping it doesn’t rain instead of buying an umbrella.
