UFT has moved too far left

New York Teacher

Ed Greenspan was right to take the leadership of the UFT to task for its endorsement of Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum, who “came out fiercely against Israel” [Comments: “Backed the wrong candidate,” Feb. 7].

The larger point should not be lost: Leadership has moved as far to the left as the Democratic Party cares to drag it — most importantly for me, on the so-called “social issues” of abortion and gay marriage.

Gov. Cuomo’s recent flirtation with late-term abortion will further widen the rift that already exists between the leadership of our union and a significant part of the rank and file. Is there no such thing as going too far?
