The deadline to apply and take the Physical Therapist (DOE) and Occupational Therapist (DOE) exam is Oct. 31. The following therapists should apply and take the exam:
- Therapists hired after the December 2013 closing date for the last exam
- Therapists who did not take the last exam
- Therapists who took but did not pass the last exam
The exam number for the upcoming Physical Therapist (DOE) Exam is 5038 and the exam number for the Occupational Therapist (DOE) Exam is 5037. You must apply online at www.nyc.gov/examsforjobs.Â
For those of you who are new to the civil service exam process, the exams for the two DOE therapist titles are education and experience exams. The exam asks you to clearly specify the details of all of your relevant experience, so you should have that information at hand when you take the exam. You must also be licensed, so have your license information available as well. Points are awarded on the exam for meeting the minimum requirements and additional credit is given for each month of work experience. Applicants receive one point per month for experience in a school setting and one-half point per month for experience in a non-school setting. Applicants are informed of the results and given further instructions immediately after submitting the online examination.
Additional information about the civil service exams can be found in the "You Should Know" section of this webpage. Please email me at lmcdonnell@uft.org if you have any questions.
