Provider Appreciation Awards Ceremony 2017
Provider Chapter Chair Tammie Miller (front left) and Vice Chair Carolyn Roman (front right) are beaming as they stand with honorees at the UFT’s Provider Appreciation Awards Ceremony.
LeRoy Barr, the UFT’s assistant secretary and staff co-director, accepts the Union Legacy Award on behalf of George Altomare, a founding member of the union 57 years ago. Barr encouraged the providers to stay engaged in the union just as some of its founders, like Altomare, continue to do.
Providers take selfies to help spread the word about the great work being done and the fun being had by chapter members.
Provider Chapter Chair Tammie Miller (fifth from left) and members of the executive board pose under a balloon arch that welcomed the 300 guests.
Friends and colleagues came to support the Union Advocacy Award winner, Miriam Cheta (center).
Members take a timeout from dancing to smile for the camera.
Community Award winner and provider Yanery Escorbores was accompanied by her dad, Marino Escorbores, while her mom was at home doing a provider’s work — watching the honoree’s daughter.
Merit Award winner Desideria Matos (front left) listens to UFT President Michael Mulgrew tell those gathered that they “give a lot of mothers solace” when they have to leave their children and go out to work.
William and Margaret Mundy, two of last year’s honorees and the owners of Miz Margaret’s Family Day Care on Staten Island, returned to the ceremony this year to support fellow providers.
Provider Chapter Chair Tammie Miller told guests she had heard some came to the ceremony for the dancing. Maybe she was talking about these two?
