Finding the right shoes to match the dress can take some discernment. Helping her students make that match is teacher Surzi Duplan of MS 582 in Brooklyn.
The more than 6,000 party dresses and gowns were sorted by size and there was a fitting room so students could ensure they found the right attire.

Mark Covington, a teacher at IS 229 in the Bronx, helps his students find the right size for their dress shirts. “It’s fabulous,” he said. “A lot of boys were not going to come because they didn’t have anything to wear.”
Kaitlyn Hoban (right) and other FIT college students, volunteered to alter dresses on the spot so students had the perfect fit. “This is an incredible opportunity for us to give back to the community with what we’re learning at school,” Hoban said.

This 8th-grader from IS 229 in the Bronx said, “Prom is something I’ve been looking forward to for a minute. I think it will be wonderful, one of my last days in school and last time seeing some of these people.”
