Evelyn DeJesus, the UFT's vice president for education, was elected by the national union’s executive council as executive vice president. She will serve alongside President Randi Weingarten and Secretary-Treasurer Lorretta Johnson. She will continue in her current role as UFT vice president.
In response, UFT President Michael Mulgrew issued the following statement:
Evelyn DeJesus puts her heart and soul into helping educators, students and families. She is a true advocate, a straight-talker and someone whose actions matches her words. Now, educators across the country will get to work with her, not just New Yorkers.
