Mulgrew on mayoral control

New York Teacher

Although the State Assembly has passed a bill extending mayoral control of city public schools, Republicans in the State Senate have proposed bills that extend mayoral control only with conditions that favor charter and private schools.

In response, UFT President Michael Mulgrew issued the following statement:

Mayoral control should not be a matter for debate, and doesn’t need the UFT to defend it. We applaud the State Assembly for standing up for the city and its schools against the Senate’s attempt to politicize this issue.
