On July 18, 2018, Gov. Cuomo directed the New York State Department of Labor to issue guidance on the Supreme Court's recent Janus decision. The guidance clarifies that the Janus decision did not change or affect many of the rights of employees and obligations of employers.
In response, UFT President Michael Mulgrew issued the following statement:
New York State continues to lead the way in recognizing the role unions play in protecting the middle class, our families and our communities. Given the surge of right-wing attacks on labor, it is heartening to know that here in New York we are empowering working men and women.
