Mulgrew responds to new DOE policy allowing public school parents to opt out of charter school mailing lists

New York Teacher

The city Department of Education announced on Aug. 28 that public school parents can opt out of mailing lists that it provides to charter schools to recruit students.

UFT President Michael Mulgrew released the following statement in response:

Children’s information should never have been shared without their parents’ consent, and this decision is an important first step in allowing families to regain control of that private data. UFT members worked with advocates and communities on this issue, and we will continue to help ensure that families understand and exercise their right to opt out.
