Florida’s GOTV effort goes digital

New York Teacher

Phones have been ringing up and down both coasts of Florida, a crucial swing state in the presidential election, as UFT Retired Teachers Chapter members mobilize to get out the vote for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. This year, the union volunteers are making these calls from home for safety reasons. And instead of urging fellow union members to go to the polls on Nov. 3, they’re making sure members receive mail-in ballots and quickly return them. The pandemic has pushed the political action volunteers to strengthen their digital game. Using the Labor Action Network, a system that tracks the voting habits and histories of AFL-CIO members, “we can see who’s a registered Democrat, Republican or Independent, and who else is in the household,” said Stewart Cohen, the RTC Florida West Coast Section coordinator. “We use that data to make our phone lists.” above: RTC Tampa Bay Section Coordinator Lynne Winderbaum works from home to get out the vote. — Linda Ocasio

The UFT mobilized members to get out the vote for Joe Biden for president and other candidates up and down the ballot who support the union's education, economic and labor agendas.

Volunteers busy getting out the vote for this crucial election

The UFT has been a political player since its founding 60 years ago. Now, for the crucial presidential election on Nov. 3, UFT retiree volunteers have been busier than ever as they work to turn out a record vote for the Biden/Harris ticket.
