Teachers Assigned Chapter Newsletter - Fall 2015

I am honored and excited to serve as your newly elected chapter leader, and I look forward to representing you. Your voices need to be heard! Your delegates and I look forward to working with each and every one of you.

I will soon be sending you a brief survey to help us to tailor projects, workshops and meetings to your specific needs. You should receive it later this month. Rest assured: The information you provide will remain confidential.

I am available should you need information or assistance, and so is the UFT staff. Please email me at teachersassigned@uft.org.

Thank you for your dedication to your profession and your union.

Sincerely,

Shelia Laval-Friedman
Teachers Assigned Chapter Leader

Breast cancer awareness month

CLS lobby day 2015

Victim support coordinators from the five boroughs went “pink” as part of the UFT’s Breast Cancer Awareness Day on Oct. 14. From left, Diane Yodice – Queens; Jeffrey Povalitis  Director of Safety & Health; Katrina Foye  Brooklyn; Roseanne Alkhatib  Staten Island; Shelia L. Friedman Manhattan; and Susan Perez-Gonzales – Bronx.

I want to thank all of you who wore pink to school on Oct. 14 to raise awareness about this important health issue. UFT President Michael Mulgrew was a leader in the effort citywide. I was happy to join members of our Victim Support Program team in wearing pink to demonstrate our commitment in the fight against breast cancer. I hope to see more of our chapter's members “go pink” next year.

You should have received by mail your NYSUT calendar for 2015. Please use it as a reference for important dates, contact information and resources that are available to you through the union. Don't have one yet? Please contact me at teachersassigned@uft.org.
