Resolution on member engagement during contract negotiations

UFT Resolutions

WHEREAS, the DOE-UFT contract is set to expire on November 30, 2022; and

WHEREAS, the UFT seeks extensive member input to shape priorities for the upcoming 2022 contract; and

WHEREAS, the UFT would like to form a negotiating committee at least as wide-reaching as the 400-member group that shaped the negotiations for the 2018 agreement; and

WHEREAS, the UFT acknowledges that the 2018 negotiating committee was the largest negotiating committee in UFT history and that this process worked successfully; and

WHEREAS, the culmination of that work resulted in agreements with more changes than ever and greater improvements for all of our UFT bargaining units; and

WHEREAS, the UFT wants to continue to ensure that members from each bargaining unit and division have a voice and are recognized as integral members in negotiating the provisions for each of their contracts; and

WHEREAS, chapters, districts, boroughs, and divisions should have member engagement opportunities to discuss the upcoming contract negotiations; and

WHEREAS, by encouraging and utilizing the will of our full membership, we provide a democratic and meaningful environment where all voices are heard and respected; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, that the UFT will survey all of its members for their general contract demands; and, be it further

RESOLVED, that the membership of each individual bargaining unit will be surveyed to express their needs and prioritize their demands; and, be it further

RESOLVED, the negotiating committee shall be formed soon to provide time to engage in training on city and state collective bargaining; and, be it further

RESOLVED, that the UFT will continue to raise our collective voices towards achieving a fair, just and representative contract.
