Resolution in support of the UFT's endorsing Melinda Katz in her primary election for Queens district attorney

UFT Resolutions

WHEREAS, in her over 25 years of public service, Melinda Katz has been a strong advocate for UFT members, from her time in the NY State Assembly, the City Council, and now as Queens Borough President; and

WHEREAS, these last five years as Borough President, Melinda invested $55.6 million for our public schools, including $20.86 million to upgrade technology in every single elementary, middle, and high school and every District 75 school in Queens; and

WHEREAS, Melinda fought tirelessly to remove 88 trailers, from our Queens schools, including Richmond Hill high school and most recently, PS 19; and

WHEREAS, Melinda led elected officials in supporting the educators at Forest Hills HS in their fight against a problematic principal; and

WHEREAS, Melinda fought and helped win the battle at Townsend Harris HS for a new principal; and

WHEREAS, Melinda worked to prevent the DOE from closing PS/IS 42 and PS 53; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, that the UFT endorse Melinda Katz in her primary election for Queens District Attorney as we believe she will be an equally strong ally in the arena of justice for our members, our schools and our borough.
