Teachers and other staff working in Title I schools can register children for the Open eBooks app, which offers thousands of best-selling books to low-income children to read for free.
First lady Michelle Obama started the program. Ten publishers have provided books for download on a mobile device app.
The Open eBooks app is available exclusively through educators, librarians and program leaders who are signed up with First Book. The books can then be downloaded for free on the children’s own mobile devices. Unlike library books, these digital books can be read without checkouts or holds.
Step-by-step instructions on how educators can sign up and register their students are available on the Open eBooks website. Simply click the Get Started button.
On its first day, Feb. 24, more than 50,000 users nationwide signed up.
