Making the decision to retire is difficult. Deciding to retire during a pandemic is even harder. But the UFT is there for you every step of the way.
When you have made the decision to retire, call the UFT at 212-331-6311 to book a final consultation with a UFT pension consultant. As soon as you make an appointment, the UFT will send you a link to the UFT retiree toolkit and a list of paperwork you need.
What to expect at your consultation
The consultant will review every choice you have regarding beneficiaries and benefits. The consultant will also explain each form and demonstrate how to fill out the forms either by hand or electronically.
By the end of the consultation, you will know how to navigate the TRS website, how to fill out the appropriate health care forms and where to send each form. You will also learn about the Retired Teachers Chapter and the Supplemental Health Insurance Program available to RTC members.
“We sent written instructions and easy-to-read checklists with links and promised we were there whenever they needed us — only a phone call away,” said Amy Bernstein, a UFT pension consultant.
