The UFT Players was organized to provide opportunities for UFT members to explore and express our creativity through a wide variety of theater arts activities and to celebrate our unique talents, diversity, and sense of community.

In 1986, Lolly Yacker Winderbaum founded the UFT Players, a group composed of retired and in-service New York UFT members. Its first venture, the original musical “Chalk Talk,” was well received. In 1997, Lolly invited Milton Polsky to help expand the organization with officers and a Board of Directors. Today, there are up to 25 members of the UFT Players’ executive board! The current co-chairs are Milton Polsky, Elizabeth Rosen, and Warren Wyss (the latter also serving as liaison to the Professional Committees).

Through the years, the Players has grown in many ways, providing an amazing array of intergenerational multicultural productions, workshops, and special events which thousands have enjoyed. We have staged close to 150 productions in the past 18 years and look forward to continuing our diverse programs—ranging from poetry readings and Playback Theater to staged readings, musical revues, and full-staged productions—thus attracting both enthusiastic audiences and participants to our exciting events.

Please contact Suzanne Lamberg at 212-288-1778 or soomac49@verizon.net for more information about the committee or to join. You can also fill out the online enrollment form here and find information about our upcoming auditions and performances by emailing UFTProfessionalCommittees@uft.org, periodically returning to this website or checking the events section in issues of The New York Teacher.
