Mulgrew reacts to governor's new review of Common Core program

Saying that “the current Common Core program in New York is not working,” Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Sept. 3 convened a “representative group” from a pre-existing education commission to conduct a “comprehensive review of the implementation of the Common Core Learning standards. He asked the group to release its findings before his State of the State address in January.

UFT President Michael Mulgrew issued the following statement in response:

Governor Cuomo has started listening to teachers and parents who know firsthand how flawed the implementation of the Common Core has been in New York State. We’ll be happy to work with the new group to help fix the problems created by the Common Core rollout and to help restore the public’s faith in state education policy,
