UFT Vice President for Elementary Schools and New Member Initative Director Karen Alford testified before the New York City Council Committee on Education regarding teacher recruitment and retention.
The United Federation of Teachers has accused the leadership of KIPP Academy Charter School in the Bronx of violating federal labor law by actively encouraging employees to decertify the UFT as their collective bargaining representative.
The UFT will work with the American Federation of Teachers, the National Education Association and other allies to press the U.S. Senate to reject the appointment of Betsy DeVos to the post of U.S. education secretary.
The UFT will support chapter leaders, delegates and school communities in their endeavors to establish cafeterias and/or lounges dedicated to UFT members in unused, available spaces in schools.
The UFT refuses to give an inch in the battle to protect neighborhood public schools from those forces that seek through privatization, for-profit charter schools and vouchers to destroy the equalizing powers of public education.
