Mulgrew visits Renaissance School of the Arts and PS 155 in East Harlem

UFT President Michael Mulgrew toured co-located PS 155 and the Renaissance School of the Arts in East Harlem on Jan. 19 and saw a good example of school communities working together. After talking to a number of teachers and seeing an impressive display of work, he congratulated the educators and principals at both schools for the work they’re doing.

During a joint meeting with staffs at the co-located Isaac Newton MS for Math and Science and the Manhattan Center for Science and Mathematic in East Harlem on Jan. 19, UFT President Michael Mulgrew introduced the union’s newest campaign, #PublicSchoolProud.

Resolution to oppose the confirmation of Betsy DeVos as U.S. Secretary of Education

The UFT will work with the American Federation of Teachers, the National Education Association and other allies to press the U.S. Senate to reject the appointment of Betsy DeVos to the post of U.S. education secretary.

Resolution for the creation of cafeterias and lounges for UFT members at every public school

The UFT will support chapter leaders, delegates and school communities in their endeavors to establish cafeterias and/or lounges dedicated to UFT members in unused, available spaces in schools.

Resolution in opposition to school vouchers

The UFT stands opposed to voucher programs and will align with like-minded groups to ensure public funds go to public schools.

Resolution in support of the 2017 UFT Public School Proud campaign

The UFT refuses to give an inch in the battle to protect neighborhood public schools from those forces that seek through privatization, for-profit charter schools and vouchers to destroy the equalizing powers of public education.
