New members in Staten Island gathered at the Staten Island borough office on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2016 to hear from UFT President Michael Mulgrew and gather information on salary, pension, certification, professional development and more.

UFT Vice President for Education Evelyn DeJesus testfied before the New York State Assembly Education Committee regarding current and new methods to support and improve the academic success of English language learner students.

More than 50 UFT child care providers took part in creative, hands-on workshops on a field trip to the Brooklyn Historical Society on Dec. 3.

“Nothing is as exciting to kids as a new pencil,” says Karen Rost, the chapter leader at PS 59, a UFT Community Learning School in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.

“The goal is to help children improve by helping teachers improve,” says Tagrid Sihly, a reading coach in the DOE's University Literacy initiative.
