At a Meet the President event with 305 members on Staten Island on Jan. 20, UFT President Michael Mulgrew focused his remarks on the Friedrichs case before the Supreme Court, which threatens the financial stability of public employee unions. Mulgrew explained that this case was brought forward by a small group of rich, powerful people “who think our voice does not matter and should not be heard.”

The UFT, the DOE and the Council of School Supervisors and Administrators crafted this FAQ to help with special education issues.

The UFT is calling on the state Legislature to enact legislation that will require taxpayer-funded charters and charter chains to accept and keep comparable numbers of high-needs students as traditional public schools.
