2014 UFT African Heritage Committee awards dinner dance

More than 270 friends and members of the UFT’s African Heritage Committee kicked off Black History Month on a celebratory note at the committee’s 11th annual dinner dance and awards ceremony on Feb. 7 at Antun’s in Queens. Awards were given to Anne Goldman, the union’s first-ever vice president for non-DOE members, I. Daneek Miller, the new City Councilman from District 27 in Queens, and teacher Marquis Harrison.

2014 CTE Awards Recognition Ceremony

“CTE today is the cool thing,” proclaimed UFT Vice President for Career and Technical Education Sterling Roberson, setting the tone for this year’s CTE Awards Recognition Ceremony. More than 35 educators were recognized for their work at the Feb. 6 celebratory event at the UFT’s Shanker Hall. “When you see students engaged in a whole different setting, a student who all of a sudden lights up, that’s what CTE is all about,” UFT President Michael Mulgrew praised the awardees. Awards were also given by the union’s industry partners, including Adobe, the Municipal Credit Union and Johnson Inc.
