Social Studies Conference 2014

“On the Wings of Workers: A Celebration of the Global History of Labor” was the theme of the Greater Metropolitan New York Social Studies Conference, which took place on Feb. 1 at UFT headquarters. The event, now in its 54th year, offered workshops on labor history and featured special guest Peter Yarrow, from Peter, Paul and Mary.

Mulgrew visits PS 222, Brooklyn

UFT President Michael Mulgrew visited PS 222 in Brooklyn on Jan. 30 to present the school with a plaque from the UFT for winning recognition as a National Blue Ribbon School for excellence in academic achievement. Mulgrew shared the latest in education news and spoke about the need for a new contract. He also answered educators’ questions about evaluations and health care.

Clinical PD for social workers and psychologists

Some 450 social workers and psychologists attended the Eighth Annual Clinical Development Program for their chapter. The all-day event at UFT headquarters included speakers Candida Brooks-Harrison of the National Association of Social Workers and Dr. Natalie Weder of the Child Mind Institute.
