LearnUFT courses in the Bronx

LearnUFT courses are now available at the UFT's Bronx borough office! The fee to register is $30 per course for teachers and $15 per course for paraprofessionals. Participants will receive two CTLE hours. Courses are available for both teachers and paraprofessionals. In order to ensure that you are not signing up for a course you have already registered for or attended, please check to be sure you are registering for the correct session.

| 9:00 am – 11:00 am

In this LearnUFT workshop for Bronx teachers and paraprofessionals, participants will describe ways in which writing can be used to support students as they construct knowledge around a theme. Group members will engage in an inquiry based interpreting evidence from a variety of sources and analyzing multimedia material to build historical thinking. Two CTLE hours will be available.

In this LearnUFT workshop for Bronx teachers and paraprofessionals, participants will describe the characteristics of language performance at each proficiency level. Participants will also be able to name strategies that can be implemented at each proficiency level to provide students with access to mathematical problems. Two CTLE hours will be available.

| 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm

In this LearnUFT workshop for Bronx teachers and paraprofessionals, participants will understand the importance of text-dependent questions as an instructional tool to support reading comprehension. Participants will then develop a sequence of text dependent questions which will scaffold understanding of complex text. Two CTLE hours will be available.

In this Member Assistance Program workshop for social workers, participants will learn how trauma affects the body, brain and behavior and discuss triggers and coping skills. Two CE hours will be offered.

In this LearnUFT workshop for Bronx teachers and paraprofessionals, participants will identify the underlying causes of challenging student behavior. Group members will also explore strategies to support students social emotional development and develop a toolkit of strategies for organizing and maintaining effective learning environments. Two CTLE hours will be available.

In this LearnUFT workshop for Bronx teachers and paraprofessionals, participants will practice strategies for engaging students productively in the writing process, make connections between pre-writing activities and the writing process and experience activities which facilitate writing through speaking and listening. Two CTLE hours will be available.

In this LearnUFT workshop for Bronx teachers and paraprofessionals, participants will explore research-based core principles as a frame for ENL instruction, practice engaging instructional strategies to increase ELL students’ access to content, reflect on how specific strategies promote integration of content and methodology and build a toolbox of techniques for integrated ENL classrooms. Two CTLE hours will be available.

In this LearnUFT workshop for Bronx teachers and paraprofessionals, participants will explore strategies for engaging students in historical thinking using arts aligned tools to build historical awareness. Participants will also analyze multiple sources in order to make claims as they interpret historical events. Two CTLE hours will be available.

How do educators know if instruction is impacting student learning? This LearnUFT workshop for Bronx teachers and paraprofessionals will focus on how to use formative assessments to check for understanding to guide student learning and instructional practice. Two CTLE hours will be available.
