Article 12 — Vacation

  1. Registered Nurses hired prior to January 1, 2011, shall be entitled to the following vacation time with pay:
    1. Four (4) weeks per year for the Registered Nurse’s first five (5) years of employment with the Employer.
    2. Five (5) weeks per year, beginning in the Registered Nurse’s sixth (6th) year of employment with Employer and each year thereafter.
  2. Registered Nurses hired on or after January 1, 2011, shall be entitled to the following vacation time with pay:
    1. Four (4) weeks per year for the Registered Nurse’s first ten (10) years of employment with the Employer.
    2. Five (5) weeks per year, beginning in the Registered Nurse’s eleventh (11th) year of employment with Employer and each year thereafter.
  3. Seniority shall be determinative in assigning Registered Nurses to their choice of vacation time in the event more Registered Nurses apply for vacation at a particular time than can be accommodated at that time. 
  4. Vacation Scheduling:
    1. Accrued Vacation is computed on the basis of the calendar year from January 1 to December 31.  During the first year, a new Registered Nurse receives vacation time on a pro-rated basis
    2. Vacation schedules shall be established taking into account the wishes of the Registered Nurses and the needs of the Employer.
    3. Where two or more Registered Nurses request the same vacation period, seniority will prevail.
    4. Seniority will prevail on vacation requests submitted by March 20 of each year.  The Employer shall respond to the request by April 1.  If a request is denied, the Registered Nurse will have until April 7 to reselect.  Final action shall be taken and announced by the Employer by April 15.
    5. Seniority also will prevail on requests for vacation to be taken during the first four months of the calendar year, if such requests are submitted by October 20 of the preceding year.  The Employer shall respond to the request by November 1.  If a request is denied, the Registered Nurse will have until November 7 to reselect.  Final action shall be taken and announced by the Employer by November 15.
    6. The Employer shall respond within two (2) weeks of receipt of a vacation request at all other times of the year.
    7. Requests from Registered Nurses received after April 1 (or November 1 of the preceding year as outlined in paragraph f), will be treated on a first-come, first-served basis.
    8. Vacations not requested by Registered Nurses by July 15 may be unilaterally scheduled by the Employer.
    9. On July 1 each year, Registered Nurses will be reminded of the amount of their vacation entitlement balance and that such vacation time may be unilaterally scheduled by the Employer after July 15.
    10. There is no carryover of vacation time from one calendar year into the next.
