Nomination forms for the Retired Teachers Chapter were due at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16.

FAQ for the RTC Chapter Election

What positions will members of the Retired Teachers Chapter (RTC) be electing this year? 

This spring, members of the RTC chapter will be electing officers, executive board and delegate assembly members. 

The officer positions are: chapter leader, four vice chairs, secretary, assistant secretary, corresponding secretary, treasurer and assistant treasurer 

In addition, RTC members will elect 15 Executive Board members and 300 delegates for the Delegate Assembly. 

Who is eligible to run as a candidate for an elected position in the RTC? 

All candidates must be members of the RTC as of Tuesday, April 16, 2024 and must submit a nominating form with member signatures. 

Officer candidates must submit a nominating form with 10 retired members ’ signatures; Executive Board candidates must submit a nominating form with five retired members’ signatures; and Delegate Assembly delegate candidates must submit a nominating form with one retired member’s signature. 

Can candidates join together to form a slate if they are running for RTC positions? 

Any group of candidates may join together to form a slate of officers, Executive Board members and Delegate Assembly delegates. Candidates may run as independents if they are not on any slate. How can candidates or slates submit candidate statements? 

Each slate is entitled to a statement which may not exceed two sides of an 8½-by-11-inch sheet. 

An independent candidate or an Executive Board candidate not on a slate is entitled to a statement not exceeding 50 words. An independent Delegate Assembly delegate candidate not on a slate is entitled to a statement not exceeding 25 words. 

All copies must be submitted in typewritten form. They can be mailed with petitions or emailed to Yasmin Colon, UFT Election Coordinator, at ycolon@uft.org

The deadline for the submission of statement copy was Tuesday, April 16, 2024. Candidates’ statements will be mailed with member ballots. 

Where and when will nominating forms be available for RTC members? 

Nominating forms were made available on March 14, 2024, at all UFT borough offices, on the UFT website or by calling the UFT election hotline at 212-331-6310

What is the deadline for completed nominating forms to be received? 

Nominating forms were due by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16, 2024. 

When will ballots be available and how will members receive them? 

Ballots will be mailed to the address currently on file with the UFT on or about May 10, 2024. A retiree member who does not receive a ballot should call the American Arbitration Association (AAA) at 800-529-5218 after May 20 to receive a duplicate ballot.

How can I update my mailing address on file with the UFT to ensure I receive my ballot?

You can update your address on the UFT Member Hub or via the UFT website on the My Account page. In addition, you can call the UFT at 212-331-6311 and ask to speak to the Membership Department.

What is the deadline for ballots to be received? 

The deadline for the receipt of ballots at the American Arbitration Association (AAA) is 8 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2024.

When will the results of the RTC election be available? 

Ballots will be counted on Friday, June 14, 2024, at the American Arbitration Association (AAA), 120 Broadway, New York, NY 10271 and results will be announced once they have been certified by the AAA.
