Welcome to the Social Workers & Psychologists Chapter

Anurag SinghAnurag Singh

Dear Colleagues,

Welcome to the Social Workers and Psychologists Chapter website. It is an honor and a privilege to serve as your elected chapter leader. You can find a list of all our executive board members on our chapter representatives page. We are here to support your needs, and the UFT is ready to help you if you have an issue or problem.

A lot of information is available for you under the Resources and You Should Know sections of our chapter website including links to the special education complaint and workload dispute forms. I have listed professional organizations that may be of help to you. (If you know of any additional resources of organizations that you think should be posted here, let me know.) I also suggest that you take online continuing education courses and go to professional development programs. Staying up-to-date in our field is crucial to maintaining our professionalism and our knowledge base.

Please save the following dates:

Saturday, Sept. 10: Labor Day Parade. We'll be in touch with details in the near future.

Thursday, Nov. 3: School Psychologist Awareness Day, UFT headquarters, Shanker Hall, 2nd floor, 52 Broadway, Manhattan.

Friday, Jan. 20, 2017: We'll hold a clinicians professional development day at UFT headquarters, Shanker Hall, 2nd floor, 52 Broadway, Manhattan.

During the summer, if you need assistance, contact one of the UFT's borough offices. The UFT borough and central office summer hours are 9 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Monday through Thursday through Sept. 1. All UFT borough offices will be closed the weeks of Aug. 15 and Agu.22. On Fridays the UFT central switchboard will operate 9 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. and a small crew will be on hand at 52 Broadway to manage union business. The offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 5, for Labor Day. Regular hours resume on Tuesday, Sept. 6. Security procedures require that all members check in at the reception desk at each office and show a photo ID.

Remember that our union is only as strong as we make it. Each of us must do his or her part. I encourage you to come to chapter meetings and union events, especially the Labor Day parade.Be sure you review our contract and the Memorandum of Agreement. Knowing your rights is an important aspect of union membership.

Enjoy your summer. See you in September.

Sincerely,

Anurag Singh
Social Workers & Psychologists Chapter Leader
