  School officials must be provided with the proper tools to understand and translate the knowledge and skills acquired in students’ home countries in order to be able to properly place students in the appropriate grade and courses in their new school. Given the various differences between the systems used around the world, assessing educational credentials can be a daunting process. This manual provides guidelines specifically to support staff in completing this process.

• Special Education and the Role of The Guidance Counselor
  Presented at the Guidance Counselor Membership Meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010 by Carmen Alvarez, Vice President for Special Education and Emma Mendez, UFT Liaison to Division of Students with Disabilities and English Language Learners. This workshop focused on the role of the mandated service provider and the completion of IEP's given the recent changes in Special Education.
• Creating Futures: CTE, Employability Skills, Workforce Development and the Role of the Guidance Counselor
  This workshop was presented on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010 by Kathleen Guilbert and Jeffrey Bernstein on the many opportunities that are offered by Career and Technical Education High Schools. The presentation, which was geared to middle school guidance counselors, takes the audience through a timeline that shows how much progress we have made in manufacturing and technology, and how CTE schools are pivotal in preparing students for the future with marketable skills and college readiness.
